According to the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation, Elena Rybakina, the third-seeded player going into the 2024 Olympic women’s tennis competition in Paris, has withdrawn from the competition due to acute bronchitis. Elena Rybakina Withdraws From Olympic News in USA
The 2022 Wimbledon champion Rybakina withdrew from both the singles and mixed doubles events, missing out on matches with partner Alexander Bublik. Rybakina has been replaced by Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, who is ranked 17th in the singles rankings. The alternate was announced as Australian Daria Saville.
Rybakina, 25, became unwell following the Wimbledon competition due to a respiratory infection. She made an effort to resume training, but her illness had left her body unrepaired. Her participation in the Olympics and her ability to travel to Paris as a spectator have both been prohibited by the physicians.

“It is with great sadness that I must announce that I will not be able to compete in the Olympics in Paris,” Rybakina stated in a statement issued on July 25 by the federation.

I sincerely apologize for not being able to live up to your expectations and represent our team in the Paris Olympics. I worked so hard to earn gold for Kazakhstan in the Paris Games after coming so close to a medal in Tokyo. Sadly, illness kept these plans from materializing.

Rybakina, after Coco Gauff (USA) and Iga Swiatek (Poland), was the third seed in the Olympics.

Several ailments have plagued Rybakina over the majority of the 2024 season. Due to several illnesses, she pulled out of the competitions in Eastbourne, Rome, and Indian Wells. Furthermore, she withdrew from the Dubai quarterfinal and retired four games into her Berlin second-round encounter.
