In a statement on July 28, the United States attributed the rocket attack to Hezbollah, following discussions with Israeli and Lebanese authorities.

According to Ms. Watson, in order to put an end to attacks and enable people on both sides of the border to safely return home, the United States is also attempting to broker a diplomatic settlement along the “Blue Line,” the border drawn by the United Nations between Israel and Lebanon.

Following the rocket attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised reprisal, stating that his government will exact a “heavy price” on the terrorist organization Hezbollah.

On July 27, he declared, “Israel will not overlook this murderous attack.”

The rocket strike took place in Majdal Shams, a Druze-populated village in the Golan Heights approximately seven miles from the Israeli-Lebanese border. Hezbollah has denied claiming responsibility for the attack. Hezbollah hasn’t targeted any civilians, Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib informed media networks on July 28.
